We listen to a lot of Ukrainian music here at the house and I can honestly say, it’s one of my favorite genres of music. It’s wide, just like American music. There’s hard rock, metal, R&B, hip-hop, jazz, folk, ska, etc. Like, seriously there is such a wide range!
So for this post, I’m going to share 10 of my favorite Ukrainian artists and hope you’ll give them a listen as well!
Alyona Alyona
I like to fancy her as the Ukrainian Missy Elliott just because how creative she is with her rhymes and videos. She’s a former kindergarten teacher who found success as a rapper.
The Vyo
This is a ska/folk/jazz hybrid with an Afro-Ukrainian lead singer. (Shout-out to those who thought Ukraine was full of wypipo). The lead singer also volunteered for the war.
Jamala
I guess if there’s a comparison to an American artist here, it would probably be Adele. She’s mad soulful and one of my favorite artists.
VovaZiLvova
A Ukrainian artist that lives here in L.A., he’s also a hip-hop rapper that incorporates jazz and gospel in his music. I met him recently at an Ukrainian rally and he’s so sweet!
LAUD
Pronounced as loud, he is a R&B singer that is mad soulful. He often does duets with other artists as you’ll see later in this post. He is also one of Bear’s favorite artists.
Salto Nazad
They’re a band and the lead singer former breakdancer (he still breakdances in a lot of his videos) and reggae artist who primarily makes R&B/adult contemporary.
Very the Jerry aka jscopemusic.
Real cool dude (had a brief interaction with him online), and he’s a primarily hip-hop artist that incorporates different genres. One of his most popular songs is a duet with LAUD.
TNMK
They’ve been around for a very long time and is probably one of the longest-running acts on this list besides The Vyo. They’re a hip-hop group that incorporates a wide range of genres in their music. Not only do I love this music video, they also used a Snoop Dogg sample!
Antytilla
The group are currently volunteering for the war and reached out to Ed Sheeran some months ago asking him to support them in the war and how they were huge fans of his. He did one better by doing a duet with them.
Boombox
They’re a group that’s a hip-hop alternative mix. The lead singer recently did a song that went viral when legendary rock band, Pink Floyd, joined In as a backing band to raise money for Ukrainian efforts.
I know I’m leaving out a lot of great music artists so there will be a part two of this list! I hope you give these artists a listen and support!
